«King, diplomant, painter, and oceanographic explorer, D. Carlos was a multifaceted figure, whose name and life became tragically linked to one of the most turbulent periods in the History of Portugal. (..) Out of the multiple possibilities to evoke the deep and multifaceted relationship of this monarch with the sea, the idea of circumscribing the project to one of his lesswell-known facets: his artistic activity, started to take shape.
