Fishermen´s Still Lives
Visual account of fishermen's still lives on the fishing harbour of Ericeira
Visual account of fishermen's still lives on the fishing harbour of Ericeira. Having been Portugal/s fourth most important port in the nineteeth century, Ericeira lost its relevance once trains became the prime means of transportation on land. Being a tourist's town and Europe's only World Surf Reserve, Ericeira kept its fishing harbour and fleet, even though reduced after Portugal joining the EU. Fishing activity in Ericeira is of the coastal kind, made on boats with a low fuel autonomy and a hull lenght of less than twelve meters. The harbour is closed many days a year, due to sea conditions that can be frequently hard.
