A Journey from Lisbon to Cascais

«Sit on the left side of the train to Cascais and then the opposite side when you return to Lisbon and you can prolong the sensation that little has chnaged since the early 20th century. The landsacpe, like in the postcards of old, remains the same, the river widening slowly as it makes its way to the sea.
But this isn´t the case on the other side. There, forts, convents, houses, palaces, groves and gardens were ruined or destroyed to make way for the city´s spread.»
