Pizarro Compass

Pizarro Compass

The compass dials introduced in the 15th century were the first portable sundials. The compass was used to point the dial north and the gnomon was adjusted to set the latitude at which the compass was being used.
Various materials and decorations were used; this is one such example. The golden age of sundials extended from the 15th century until the end of the 18th century.
