D. Duarte 3-wheel set with case

King Duarte's Wheels: The Science of Time in 'The Loyal Counsellor'

Journey back to the 15th century and discover the origins of astronomical navigation in Portugal. This exquisite Set of 3 King Duarte's Wheels is inspired by the medieval nocturlabe, which owes its name to the detailed description provided by King Duarte himself (1391-1438) in his famous philosophical and practical treatise, O Leal Conselheiro (The Loyal Counsellor). This pioneering nautical instrument is historically associated with an ingenious method for calculating nighttime hours by observing the stars.

Available exclusively at the Maritime Museum Shop, the set features three meticulously crafted metal medallions that replicate the concentric operation of the original calculation wheels. This piece is a true bridge between royal literature, medieval science, and Portuguese maritime pioneering.

Case Dimensions: 18 x 7.5 x 2 cm.

Medallion Dimensions: Ø 4 cm (Diameter) x 0.3 cm (Thickness) each.
