The End of Shame
The End of Shame
In recent years, radical right-wing parties have become central political actors in most European countries.
What explains the increasing electoral success of these parties? If the change in political ideas is a particularly slow process, why do they grow so fast, seemingly out of nowhere?
The answer, as Vicente Valentim argues in this, his first book, lies in the fact that many of the people who currently express their support for the radical right already held these ideas privately, but until now did not feel comfortable expressing them publicly due to social pressure.
The End of Shame - How the radical right became normalised, by Vicente Valentim, who holds a PhD in Political Science from the European University Institute in Florence, is an adaptation into Portuguese of his first book, The Normalization of the Radical Right, published in English by the prestigious Oxford University Press.
Winner of several awards, namely the Jean Blondel Prize, awarded by the European Consortium for Political Research for the best thesis written in Europe in the field of Political Science, his work is already considered a reference text for all those who wish to understand one of the most relevant political phenomena of today.
