Island and City of Goa, Metropolitan of India and Eastern Parts
Island and City of Goa, Metropolitan of India and Eastern Parts
Reproduction of the map "Island and City of Goa, Metropolis of India and Eastern Parts", whose original drawing was executed in 1595 by the celebrated Dutch chronicler Jan Huyghen van Linschoten and immortalised by the engraver Baptista van Doetecum. A cartographic jewel belonging to the collection of the Navy Museum, now available in a magnificent art edition.
This historical map details the island and city of Goa — the great metropolis and heart of the Portuguese overseas empire in Asia — noting that it is located "at 15 degrees to the north". With its rich illustrations of period vessels, coats of arms, and detailed topography, Linschoten's map revolutionised European geographical knowledge of the Orient and the spice routes then controlled by Portugal.
Giclée print on White Velvet archival paper (270g) with a cotton base. This fine art printing method guarantees exceptional longevity, deep colours, and absolute sharpness, faithfully preserving the richness of the 16th-century parchment.
